Flax lilies are beautiful ornamental grasses. I mixed mine with agapanthus in an area with no irrigation and it’s done well for years. You do have to water it regularly to get it established, then just cut it back in late winter/early spring, before the new growth comes up from the ground, then you’ll have fresh leaves all year.

It is native to the outback of Australia, according to Better Homes and Gardens: https://www.bhg.com/gardening/plant-dictionary/perennial/flax-lily/

You see this a lot in Florida landscapes. I have it in the backyard mingled with blue agapanthas. It’s beautiful. Just cut it back in early spring and you’ll have fresh leaves each year. If you don’t cut it back, it gets kind of rusty looking as the old leaves die back and you can cut them out individually. That takes a lot longer than just cutting back the whole plant before it starts putting out new leaves. It’s very hardy. We have it in an area with no irrigation and it’s been through several years and is still going strong.
