I’m surprised by the negative reviews. I really like this topsoil *because* it has so much organic matter in it, attracting beneficial critters/worms that feed on it and break down the organic material, aerating the pot/bed through their tunneling. I like seeing organic material like this because it reminds me that I’m not using some big brand, overly processed product. If you want totally even chunks and only “dirt”, then you should probably go with a big name brand. I also use this as a filler in my really large grow bag beds that don’t necessarily need the best soil throughout, like native plants.

This “top soil” is the worst. It contains a majority of mulch and there were even large pieces of wood in this. The fact that it is more mulch than soil makes it hold the heat and is acidic. I needed it for lawn repair and is disappointing that I might have created more problems for my lawn areas where soil was needed…..I got this advice from a family member who is a Penn State Landscape Contractor and he knows a lot about lawn care. So if you are using it for lawn repair, find a product that is actually topsoil.
