All parts of the Caladium are toxic to both pets and humans if ingested. Even the sap can cause irritation or a burning sensation upon contact. Known for their vibrant, heart-shaped foliage, Caladiums (Caladium spp.) or Angel Wings are a stunning addition to shaded gardens and containers. Their ornamental leaves come in a wide array of striking colors and patterns, adding bold texture and interest to the landscape.
Care Needs:
- Light: Partial to full shade
- Water: Keep soil evenly moist; reduce watering during dormancy
- Soil: Moist, fertile, well-draining soil (amend with compost if needed)
- Growth Rate: Fast once established in warm temperatures
- Temperature: Dormant until daytime temps stay above 70°F and nights above 60°F
- Pruning: Not necessary
- Features: Colorful, ornamental leaves
- Tips: Caladiums die back in cooler months but regrow reliably when warmth returns
