Nandina (Nandina domestica), commonly called Heavenly Bamboo, is an evergreen to semi-evergreen shrub valued for its fine texture, upright form, and seasonal color changes. It features lacy green foliage that turns shades of red, burgundy, or bronze in cooler weather, along with white spring flowers and red berries in fall and winter. Nandina is commonly used in foundation plantings, mass plantings, borders, and as a low hedge, and performs reliably in landscapes with minimal care.
Care Needs
• Light: Full sun to partial sun; best color in full sun
• Water: Water regularly during establishment; drought tolerant once established
• Pruning: Minimal pruning needed; thin older canes at the base if shaping is desired
• Fertilizer: Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring if needed
