Ananas comosus, commonly known as pineapple, is a tropical fruiting plant prized for its sweet, juicy fruit and striking rosette of spiny foliage. Fun fact: each pineapple is actually made up of dozens of individual flowers that fuse together to form a single fruit. Pineapple plants also make attractive ornamental additions to landscapes and containers, often producing one fruit per plant before developing new offsets, or "pups."
Care Needs:
• Light: Full sun
• Water: Water regularly until established; once established, allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings
• Pruning: Remove dead or damaged leaves as needed; after fruiting, allow pups to develop or remove them for propagation
• Fertilizer: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer every 2–3 months during the growing season or use a fertilizer formulated for bromeliads or tropical fruit plants
