Amaryllis (Hippeastrum spp.) is a bold, bulbous perennial often grown as a seasonal flowering annual in North Florida and South Georgia landscapes. Known for its large, trumpet-shaped blooms that appear on tall, sturdy stems, Amaryllis produces striking flowers in shades of red, pink, white, salmon, and bi-colors. It is commonly planted in garden beds, borders, and containers, where it provides dramatic color in spring and occasionally again in fall when properly established.
Care Needs:
• Light: Full sun to partial sun
• Water: Water regularly during active growth; allow soil to dry slightly between waterings
• Pruning: Remove spent blooms and allow foliage to remain until it naturally yellows to recharge the bulb
• Fertilizer: Apply a balanced fertilizer during active growth and after flowering to support bulb development
