Coreopsis (Coreopsis spp.), also known as tickseed, is Florida’s official state wildflower and is celebrated for its cheerful, daisy-like blooms in shades of yellow, gold, pink, and bi-color varieties. Native coreopsis species thrive in Florida’s climate, blooming profusely from spring through fall and attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. With its long-lasting flowers and easy-care nature, coreopsis is perfect for wildflower gardens, borders, and roadside plantings, bringing bright color and movement to the landscape.
Care Needs:
- Light: Full sun for best flowering
- Water: Low to moderate; drought-tolerant once established
- Soil: Well-draining soil; tolerates sandy and poor soils
- Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 4–9, depending on species
- Growth Rate: Fast
- Pruning: Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering
- Fertilizer: Not usually needed; overly rich soil can reduce blooms
