Little Volcano Bush Clover (Lespedeza thunbergii ‘Little Volcano’) is a graceful deciduous shrub with an upright, arching habit that cascades into a fountain of color in late summer and fall. It produces masses of rosy-purple, pea-like flowers that attract butterflies and create a vibrant display. In autumn, its foliage turns golden, adding seasonal interest before dropping for winter. Little Volcano is an excellent choice for borders, slopes, or as a specimen plant where its dramatic form can shine.

Care Needs:

  • Light: Full sun for best blooming
  • Water: Moderate; drought-tolerant once established
  • Soil: Well-draining soil of average fertility
  • Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 5–9
  • Growth Rate: Moderate to fast
  • Pruning: Cut back hard in late winter or early spring to encourage vigorous new growth and blooms
  • Fertilizer: Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring if needed
