Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum) is a stately, deciduous conifer native to Florida, often seen thriving along rivers, swamps, and wetlands. Known for its soft, feathery green foliage that turns a warm, coppery orange in fall, it adds year-round beauty and structure to landscapes. Its distinctive “knees” (root projections) and tolerance for both wet and dry soils make it a versatile choice for water gardens, large yards, and naturalized plantings.
Care Needs:
- Light: Full sun for best growth
- Water: Adaptable; tolerates wet, boggy conditions or occasional drought once established
- Soil: Prefers moist, acidic, well-draining soil but adapts to various soil types
- Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 4–10
- Growth Rate: Moderate to fast
- Pruning: Minimal; remove dead or damaged branches as needed
- Fertilizer: Generally not required; apply balanced fertilizer in spring if growth is slow
Field grown options are available in store.
