Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis miller) is a low-maintenance, sun-loving succulent valued for its soothing gel and unique, spiky appearance. Known for both its ornamental appeal and practical uses, Aloe Vera thrives in containers or dry garden beds, making it a versatile choice for any space.
Care Needs:
- Light: Full sun to partial shade; introduce slowly to new light conditions to avoid shock
- Water: Low water needs; water regularly but allow soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid watering during winter dormancy
- Soil: Sandy, rocky, well-draining soil
- Temperature: Not cold hardy; cover or bring indoors when temperatures drop below 40°F
- Growth Rate: Moderate
- Bloom Time: Summer, but only once mature (around 4 years old)
- Pruning: Remove leaves as needed; avoid over-harvesting to maintain plant health
- Tips: Gradually transition plants when changing light conditions to prevent sunburn or wilting
