Bleeding Heart Vine (Lamprocapnos spectabilis) is a striking tropical climber known for its vibrant red flowers framed by white, heart-shaped bracts. Blooming throughout the warmer months, it adds dramatic color to trellises, arbors, or containers and is a favorite for attracting hummingbirds and butterflies.
Care Needs:
- Light: Bright indirect light to partial sun; avoid harsh afternoon sun
- Water: Moderate; keep soil consistently moist but well-drained
- Temperature: Thrives in warm, frost-free climates
- Soil: Rich, well-draining soil
- Maintenance: Prune after blooming to maintain shape and encourage new growth
- Fertilizer: Use a balanced fertilizer during the growing season
- Toxicity: Toxic to people and animals
- Tips: Plant near a deciduous tree! It will bloom when the tree is starting to bud, and get protected from the hot sun in the summer
