Ixora (Ixora coccinea) is a tropical evergreen shrub prized for its dense clusters of tiny, star-shaped flowers in vibrant shades of red, orange, pink, or yellow. Blooming throughout much of the year in warm climates, ixora adds continuous color to landscapes, borders, and containers. Native to tropical Asia, it thrives in Florida’s heat and humidity, attracting butterflies and other pollinators. Its compact growth and glossy green leaves make it ideal for hedges, foundation plantings, or bright accent spots in the garden.

Care Needs:

  • Light: Full sun for best blooming; tolerates partial shade
  • Water: Moderate; keep soil consistently moist but not soggy
  • Soil: Well-draining, slightly acidic soil
  • Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 9–11; protect from frost
  • Growth Rate: Moderate
  • Pruning: Lightly prune after blooms fade to maintain shape
  • Fertilizer: Use an acid-loving plant fertilizer during the growing season for continuous flowers
