If you’ve driven down San Jose Boulevard lately, you may have noticed something a little extra merry happening at Liberty Landscape Supply. Twinkling lights. Rows of Fraser Firs. A suspicious number of elves. Maybe even a jolly man in red doing a test run. That’s because Liberty is officially transforming its San Jose location into the North Pole Nursery: Honoring Lou Trad’s Love of Christmas, and trust us, this isn’t your average holiday pop-up. This is a full-blown festive takeover.
On Saturday, December 6th from 2–6 p.m., Liberty is kicking off a brand-new Christmas tradition for Jacksonville, one that blends nostalgia, community, and good old-fashioned holiday fun. And the best part? It’s free to attend.
For decades, the property at 8178 San Jose Boulevard was home to Trad’s Nursery, a beloved local staple best known for two things: expertise and Christmas spirit. Liberty is bringing that spirit back to life…but with its own twist.
This is the first full-scale holiday celebration since Liberty revitalized the space, and the team wanted the event to feel both familiar and fresh. Think classic Christmas magic, fresh pine, warm lights, and community. “We wanted to create something special that feels both new and nostalgic,” says owner Mike Zaffaroni. “This event is about honoring a Jacksonville holiday tradition while sharing Liberty’s spirit of community, family, and fun.”
If your holiday checklist includes Santa, twinkle lights, and an excuse to wear your coziest sweater, you’re in the right place. Here's what’s waiting for you at the North Pole Nursery:
- Photos with Santa: bring the kids, the dogs, or your inner child.
- Ornament decorating with actual elves: they’ve cleared their schedule.
- Holiday crafts: DIY your way into the season surrounded by trees and greenery.
- A Christmas bar for adults: because Santa isn’t the only one who deserves a treat.
- Festive shopping: Fraser Firs, wreaths, garland, poinsettias, and everything you need to deck your halls.
Plus, throughout the month of December, Liberty will host a toy drive benefiting the Youth Crisis Center. Centered around our Liberty tree, we’ll be collecting unwrapped toys for children ages 4–17, including dolls, Legos, books, craft kits, and more— and don’t worry, we will make sure there are trees for these gifts to go under.
Whether you’re tackling your decorating list, looking for a family-friendly outing, or just want to feel like you accidentally wandered into a Hallmark movie, this event is designed for you. And because admission is free, you can spend your weekend making memories, not buying tickets.
